I am pleased to announce my official retirement from active competitive racing after 20 years on a speedway bike!
The time has come to say farewell to the bikes and the racing, and offer my help to Canadian speedway in the formation of a new Youth Class in 2011.
I will be working hard to implement a new entry level for the youth class and encourage young aspiring riders to enter the sport safely and competently

Gary Hesmer is one of Canada's top-flite racers. Driven by his passion for many years of racing speedway, he always competes to a high level, and produces the same level of exciting racing for his watchful fans.
His path into speedway started through his Dad Jim, Jim himself was a very good Canadian rider and was a very instrumental part of the growth and creation of the Paris Speedway track. The track is still running strongly after more than 20 years following Jim's interaction, but sadly Jim who passed suddenly a few years ago cannot be part of this today, but Gary carries his memories track bound, every race!
Gary's fans enjoy his aggressive riding skills every race. His never give up attitude was very evident in his 2009 and 2010 racing campaigns at the Welland Speedway track. His season-long battles with friend and foe Rob Dixon, produced some of the most exciting races seen at Welland for many years! Gary also is a specialist on Ice and is often seen competing in the USA Ice Racing Series.
